Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, also known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment gives an increase in linearity of a given stat.
Players can recycle six items at a time to gain a gauge for each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling an item varies according to its rarity and.

Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to increase the stats of your armor and weapons. This can be accomplished through a variety of methods, including by using upgrade components or increasing an item's rarity or mark level. Many items can also be reforged in order to increase their stats.
Upgradeable items are available throughout the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. The main way to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are components that can be inserted into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and most require a certain upgrade level. Some upgrade components provide specific bonuses, while other components offer a general bonus.
There are several types of upgrade elements in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments, can be used in any equipment type and offer fewer bonuses than those that are equipment-type specific. Glyphs can only be placed in gathering tools and provide a variety of bonuses, from increasing the speed of the item's collection to supplying additional crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, click it in your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. This will display an overview on the right side of the screen, showing what the expected stats will be after the upgrade, and any materials or components required. If you don't possess enough of either the upgrade button will show as Blocked.
The upper-right side of the screen shows the amount of upgrade components needed for an item. The cost of upgrading increases with the level of upgrade and rarity, but can be reduced using various methods, such as buying upgrades from a vendor or trading them to other players.
Many weapons can be improved by a prefix such as a rune or an insignia. Other weapons can be upgraded with the suffix. These upgrades add an adjective to the name of the item like "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs are an effective tool to communicate visual information. They animate in order to draw the attention of the viewer and entice curiosity. The animation of glyphs resembles body language, making them even more effective at conveying messages across language barriers. Glyphs can also trigger a feeling of familiarity in the brain, thereby increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph has a set of values that it could increase a stat's value, as shown on the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an artifact. This is the maximum value that a glyph could enhance a stat by but not the amount it will actually increase it by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the quality and tier of the product you are in awe of it.
The majority of upgrade components that are slotted into items can't be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the equipment in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If, however, you have a non-useful rune or glyph that has not yet been added to your gear, you can move it to a different piece of equipment by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu in the Glyphs panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
You can remove a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed within which it is placed however, you can salvage the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards, therefore, it shouldn't be considered as a loss.
When you take away an item after adding a glyph the shards from that glyph will disappear. You can also put a glyph on your equipment to give it a bonus. For instance the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly rather than all at one time. This can be helpful for those who take many hits from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens allow players to alter the affixes on their weapons and equipment, and they can be obtained through a variety of methods, including in mistery boxes or as an uncommon drop from skulled creatures, or by killing bosses. Each reroll provides the player with a random affix that is generally better than the one they had prior to. Reroll tokens can also be a good way to reroll weapon stats, which can be upgraded to increase damage or perks.
Rerolled items don't appear on the menu for item upgrades, but they can be upgraded. If you click the "upgrade button", you can recycle the items that have been rerolled. This will alter the appearance of the window for the item and let up to six items to be chosen to recycle. Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its gauge of level. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, which means higher-level items are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.
In addition to tokens for rerolls players can also use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to reroll the Weapon Traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls roll a percentage chance to determine a weapon's trait. If it scores higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower the weapon is left as it was. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
A reroll is a good option to upgrade an item, however, players must be aware that it will reduce the total ilvl of the weapon due to the number of rerolls required in order to increase the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This effect is most noticeable on Rings and Diadems since they have no other options for raising ilvl.
The system of rerolls has been criticised by players as being too expensive, and it would be more reasonable to let players pay for it with money or a food item that would allow players to alter their builds without spending too much time and effort. The developers have no plans to introduce paid rerolls at this point in the game's development. Instead, they're planning to include a race change potion in the future.
Leveling
There are several ways to upgrade an item. The first method of leveling up an item upgrade is to increase the amount of upgrade. This boosts the value of an upgrade for a stat. The alternative is to increase the effect of an upgrade, which increases the healing or damage for a stat. Additionally there is the possibility to upgrade the base item to an upgrade type. The new item will retain its iLevel, but be upgraded to reflect the effects of the upgraded item.
When you upgrade item s it is essential to keep in mind that upgrades are not guaranteed. In most cases a better roll is based on the glyphs. However, there are times when a greater or special roll could occur. The type of item will determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a rare or exclusive item to a specific kind of item, it is likely to getting an additional level.
Upgrades can be expensive Particularly if you're upgrading your equipment from the standard track to legendary. The cost of upgrading a piece of equipment will depend on the base iLevel as well as the amount of upgrade levels. Some upgrade tracks also require crests in order to get to the next level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item will be at the maximum level of its upgrade track and gain an additional benefit. This will result in a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect will vary with each upgrade level though. In general the upgrade effect is increased by a factor of +3.
The iLevel will also change depending on the item's upgrade path and its base level. For example an item that has been upgraded from being a rare or unique item to an outstanding one can be expected to gain the Enhanced Defense of the new base item.
